Web Programming–Reasons & Goals

The next phase in my journey after creating the website, blog, forums and wiki was to move into web programming. My reasons were to expand my understanding of web technologies by being able to create dynamic and database driven websites. I wanted to create more complex websites and also add new features. I had tweaked PHP built frameworks like WordPress and copied some JavaScript when needed. But, I never built anything myself from just an idea.

I decided to go with ASP.NET. My tool was Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. As I have mentioned before, I am a Windows IT guy so these seemed like natural choices.

My goals were to create something I call the Astronomy Calculator which is a series of astronomy calculations that will be part of my other website Clear Sky Tonight.
