I wanted to update my methodology of performance testing websites.
- Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/)
- Though not necessary strictly about performance, it is good to check.
- Google PageSpeed (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/)
- YSlow (http://yslow.org/)
- OK but after a while I didn’t find as much helpful results
- Pingdom Website Speed Test (http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/)
- WebPagetest (http://www.webpagetest.org/)
- Load Impact (https://loadimpact.com/)
- I haven’t used this service in a while. I referenced my old blog post titled Website Load Testing. I logged in and the features had changed a little.
- The first thing I did was create an User Scenario. I used the Chrome extension to record a scenario that opened all the major pages and a couple of blog posts. I then validated it.
- I created a test using the recorded scenario. I had the load zone be Portland, WA. The traffic simulation was a Max VUs of 50 for a duration of 5 minutes. I saved and ran the test.
- The free test on the home page is good for a quick test though you can’t control the load zone.
