How to add Google Analytics to phpBB

I recently updated my forum running phpBB to the latest version. I had added the Google Analytics tracking code by editing the style files. However, I wanted to find an easier way to integrate the Google Analytics code that wouldn’t increase the effort when upgrading.

There was an official Google Analytics phpBB extension so installed it.
