I had been used a service called Twitterfeed to automatically post from WordPress to Twitter and Facebook.  But, then I got an email that they were closing down.  So, started searching for an alternative.  I found a WordPress plug-in that would accomplish the tasks called NextScripts:  Social Networks Auto-Poster.  Below is the steps to configure the plugin.

Twitter

  • In plugin settings, click Add New Account and select Twitter.  There is then a great set of instructions for Twitter.
  • Login into Twitter account.
  • Go to developer webpage
  • Create new app
  • Enter info
  • set permissions
  • Create access token
  • Copy info to plugin settings

Facebook

  • In plugin settings, click Add New Account and select Twitter.  There is then a great set of instructions for Facebook.
  • Login into Facebook using a real Facebook account and not the account used for a page.
  • Add a New app
  • Select basic setup
  • Enter info
  • Go Settings and add Platform
  • select website
  • Enter site URL and App Domain and Save changes
  • Go App Review and say yes to make public
  • Copy info to plugin settings and update Settings
  • Confirm real Facebook account is an admin on the Facebook page
  • Authorize your Facebook account
  • Set posts to public

If everything looks good, try a test by creating a test post.
